Our football team has its first training session on Sunday the 12th of February. This is going to be the first team aimed at U.K/Nepali cohesion for players aged 16 and up in Rushmoor. The management of the team will consist of Rich Cooper, Prasant Thapa and Billy Davies. They all are very excited by the project and look forward to getting the ball rolling.
Our aim is to enter some local tournaments before entering the 20012/13 local football leagues in August. Rich has been working with the disengaged youths of Rushmoor for many years, previously and still with the Aldershot born and bred youths, and now with the Nepali youths, so already has a base for the team. We are also building a cricket team that will work within the same ethos of the football team and as interest grows, we plan to add more sports teams to the “United Rushmoor” idea.
A quote from Rich Cooper "The first initiative of United Rushmoor will be 'URFC', a football club that aims to integrate young people from two cultures and promote building friendships and cross-community development. It will provide an opportunity for those young people, aged 16 and upwards, that are disengaged from their community and have struggled to integrate in a harmonious and mutually beneficial way to become involved in a positive, healthy activity. It will result in the team members having that all-important sense of 'belonging', which fosters self-esteem and positive relationships and will impact on the local community with mutual respect and unity as a result. I personally can't wait to see hand-shakes between young people from the two communities, which will be a significant step in making Rushmoor an example for others to follow."

On this day... First official match of United Rushmoor FC, making sure the young generation of mixed races live in peace. It was a friendly against a team of good players/PE teachers etc from Connaught School. Finished 2-2 at full time... And we won on penalties, the team played ACE! Only one overall winner though - community.

Amazing night... Best turn out for months, in the pouring rain on a Champions League match night! All back to mine for pizza and tv afterwards. Uniting for our futures, that's what it's all about.

Sorry it's been a little quiet on here of late! The United Rushmoor football team is gearing up - it has been a tough but productive couple of months getting it all off the ground, but the committed players are now turning up each week, rain or shine, and we are having our first friendly fixture in a couple of weeks. The next Best of Both event will now be in the Sept/Oct timeframe (it's a crazy summer ahead). If anyone can offer any help/volunteering/donations with the team, let it be known! Cheers all.
